"Unite for Change: Our Stop EACOP Campaign"

“EACOP, or East African Crude Oil Pipeline, is a controversial project designed to transport oil from Uganda to Tanzania, raising concerns about its environmental and social consequences. Join our campaign to learn more and take action.”

The “Stop EACOP” campaign is a grassroots movement led by Justice Movement Uganda (JMU) in collaboration with concerned individuals, organizations, and communities. It centers on the urgent need to halt the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project—a major infrastructure undertaking with potentially devastating environmental and social impacts.

Join us in this vital campaign to protect our environment, safeguard communities, and take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable and just future. Together, we can make a difference.

Why it matters

The EACOP project, if not managed responsibly, could exacerbate climate change, harm local communities, and endanger critical ecosystems. By addressing the specific challenges posed by EACOP, the campaign aims to contribute to the broader global effort to combat climate change and protect the rights and well-being of vulnerable communities in Uganda and the East African region.

Campaign Objectives:

  1. Environmental Assessment: Advocate for a thorough and independent environmental impact assessment of the EACOP to identify and mitigate potential harm to ecosystems, water sources, and biodiversity.

  2. Community Engagement: Ensure that local communities affected by the EACOP are informed, consulted, and fairly compensated for any disruptions to their livelihoods.

  3. Climate Mitigation: Promote the adoption of best practices and technologies to minimize greenhouse gas emissions associated with the extraction and transportation of crude oil through the pipeline.

  4. Transparency and Accountability: Demand transparency from project stakeholders and hold them accountable for any violations of environmental regulations or human rights.
